Introductory Blog Post
Hello Everyone,
My name is Benjamin, but you can call me Ben. I currently live in Fort Johnson, Louisiana. I like working out, playing poker, and going bow hunting. I am currently in the Army, but I plan on hopefully receiving my Bachelor's Degree by the time I get out. Once I leave the Army, I also plan to take a trip with my wife around Europe. We would like to take in as much of the culture as we can. Therefore, I am taking this class in hopes of gaining knowledge not only on what I will be seeing but also gaining an appreciation for the history behind it all.
One piece of artwork I find appealing is the Mona Lisa. I always see on social media hundreds of people surrounding this piece of artwork at a time, and it makes me curious what the significance is, as I am not familiar with the artwork at all. I've also seen it featured in the Glass Onion and Da Vinci Code movies, so my curiosity about its significance is even greater.
My relationship to art is fairly new. I have never been a painter, drawer, etc., but my curiosity for art developed when my wife and I started buying a piece of art from every town/state we visited. I really enjoy seeing our collection grow and cherishing all of the memories behind each piece.
Lastly, here is a video related to artwork that I really enjoy watching. It's a video titled "How to Look at Art" by "The Art Doctor". I really appreciate how enthusiastic The Art Doctor is. She also breaks everything down very simply so that a beginner like myself can easily learn how to look at art without feeling overwhelmed.

ReplyDeletehi ben. growing up in a military family was fu but definitely stressful, I couldn't image what the actual participant has to deal with as much and much more stress. great video that you shared with us on the painting that you chose! thank you for sharing.

What stands out to me is how you’re diving into art even though it’s new for you also on how collecting art with your wife from your travels makes each piece more personal and meaningful. I really like how you’re tying this to the theme of culture especially with your curiosity about the Mona Lisa. I think it’s a good example of how art reflects history and society. Ofher than that, your mention of “The Art Doctor” also sounds like a helpful way to start learning without feeling overwhelmed. I hope to read more of your blogs.

I love how you and your wife collect art from every place you visit and I think that’s such a cool way to keep memories alive and connect with different places. Your curiosity about the Mona Lisa is relatable. I think it's crazy how one painting can attract such a crowd. Other than that; I’m sure learning about its history will make it even more interesting when you see it. The trip around Europe sounds amazing too! Hence; taking this class to get a better understanding of what you’ll be seeing is a great idea. I’m also a fan of The Art Doctor! Well, she makes art feel less intimidating especially for those of us who are still nebwbies to it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your thoughts this semester!
